Research reveals 2009's 100 most active brands in social media.
US-based social media management company Vitrue has released its second annual listing of the most social brands, The Vitrue 100 2009. According to the listing the top ten social media brands of last year are:
- iPhone
- Disney
- CNN
- MTV
- NBA
- iTunes
- Wii
- Apple
- Xbox
- Nike
And with the past year also seeing Facebook break through the 350 million per month active users worldwide barrier, it is a clear that social media will continue to grow in power and influence.
Rob Smith, PR director at fuse8, commented: “The brands on this list clearly understand how social media provides a powerful and effective platform to create word-of-mouth marketing and peer-to-peer advocacy.
“It would be easy to dismiss the work they undertake in the online arena as only applicable to ‘big brands’ but the fact is that social media presents potential opportunities for any brand, product or service no matter what the size. Social media is only going to grow in stature and influence, so it’s time to get involved.”
Independent market research company Forrester is stating that social media marketing is projected to grow at an annual rate of 34 per cent, faster than any other form of online marketing. Many enlightened organisations will continue to use social media to underpin marketing activity whilst further convergence of marketing channels can be seen with traditional broadcast, press and poster advertising directing people to websites, twitter accounts and facebook URLs.
The Vitrue 100 list was constructed using an algorithm which measured a brand’s online conversations from status updates to multi-dimensional video sites. This provides a snapshot to help makes sense of the overwhelming amount of measurable data. To view the complete list, visit the Vitrue webpage.
